Why join Horsham Speakers Club and is it right for you?

I am interested in joining Horsham Speakers Club. Can I try it and see first before joining?

Horsham Speakers Club loves welcoming guests, visitors and new members whatever your speaking abilities.  You can attend a meeting as a guest to see what the Club is all about without any cost or commitment. In fact, it’s a great way to decide if you should join a Speakers Club

I don’t have any public speaking experience – is it for me?

Yes. We have speakers of all abilities and of all ages and many of our members join with no or very little public speaking experience. The programme you work through is designed to teach you all the skills that you need so that you gradually improve in confidence and competence.

Am I expected to speak at my first meeting?

Absolutely not.  It is entirely up to you if you wish to speak or not, although we ask guests if they would like to tell the others what they thought of their first meeting.  Again, there is no obligation to speak if you don’t want to.

I am still a little nervous about attending my first meeting – what is your advice?

Simply call or email us – details can be found on the Contact Us page and below – and we will make sure that you’re welcomed and someone will explain everything to you.  At the first meeting, someone will sit with you and make sure you enjoy your visit. We will introduce you to a few members so that you will quickly feel right at home.

Do I have to turn up to every meeting?

No. We appreciate life very often gets in the way and so there is no requirement that you have to attend. However, what we do find is that as members start to grow in confidence they enjoy the meetings more and more and want to attend as often as they can.

I see that the club is involved in competitions.  What if I am not sure about taking part in competitions?

Not every member is interested in speaking competitions, but for those who enjoy the challenge, each club will hold competitions in the three main disciplines:

  1. Prepared Speaking
  2. Impromptu Speaking
  3. Speech Evaluations

If you don’t want to compete, it is still worth going to the Area and other finals as the standard of speaking is usually very high and there is always an opportunity to learn from others.

Why should I join Horsham Speakers Club?

Whatever your ability, when you join Horsham Speakers Club, your public speaking improves. Your confidence will improve, you’ll learn all about how to speak well and you’ll meet a great bunch of really supportive people.
